The game was in the balance as the Warriors led 6-0 early in the second-half.

But four tries in a brilliant 12-minute spell ensured the Warriors finished 28-6 victors.

Oliver Gildart, Dom Manfredi, Tony Clubb and Anthony Gelling all crossed, adding to John Bateman’s first-half try.

It was their most comprehensive win of the year so far and stretched their Super League winning run to a perfect five from five.

Wane said: “There are a few things from the first half we need to fix but we’ll put an 80-minute performance together soon.

“We tried to force it a little bit but in the second half we were ruthless and showed some good skill.

“That was a good performance in that second half - and that’s all I’m showing in the morning when we do a review.

“Just some of the good things, habit-forming things, that we need to pick up.”

Wigan’s win was achieved with an injury-hit squad and their woes deepened before kick-off when stand-off George Williams was ruled out, and promising forward Nick Gregson was thrust in for his debut.

“It makes it enjoyable that we have a young Wigan kid making his debut, and it makes it more special having his dad in the changing room singing our song,” said Wane.

“It was a good feeling because when you consider how many players we’ve got yet to come back in the team and we’ve only put 40 minutes together, the club is in good shape.

“It was a major disruption with George going out and Lockers (Sean O’Loughlin) coming into the halves. We’ve never run that way.

“I did keep saying when we were 6-0 up that this will not be enough against this mob.

“We needed to get something and we did. I have a lot of respect for Leeds, they are a good club with a good coach and good players. That makes the win really enjoyable.”

Leeds crumbled in the second-half onslaught as they fell to their fourth Super League defeat of the year.

They are struggling with injuries but Wigan are depleted, too - Williams became the sixth frontline player to be ruled out for Wigan, who were also missing Willie Isa, Dom Crosby, Micky McIlorum and the Tomkins brothers, Sam and Joel.

“George has never had nerve problems in his back before so it’s new for him and it must have felt a bit odd,” continued Wane.

“It wasn’t worth risking but that makes the win a lot more enjoyable, having George out and Lockers filling in and then it shows what a good athlete he is.”

Wane was able to see the funny side about Manfredi’s post-match interview on Sky Sports, in which the Leigh-born winger swore - and then compounded his slip of the tongue with another swear word!

“That’s their fault for getting a Leyther on,” joked Wane.
