Wigan Warriors' attack will improve with the weather, says Liam Marshall

Liam Marshall admits the bad weather is hampering Wigan’s attempts to play with the attacking style they want.

While they have shown plenty of impressive spells during their solid start to the campaign, the winger has told fans there is much more to come.

While most backs prefer dry tracks, Marshall believes the warmer conditions will particularly suit Warriors speedsters such as Bevan French, Oliver Gildart Joe Burgess, Dom Manfredi and himself as the campaign unfolds.

“Us outside backs at Wigan are maybe not the biggest, but we like to back our speed and our skill,” said Marshall.

“And as the weather gets better, hopefully we’ll get more and more chance to show what we can do.

“At the moment it’s sort of difficult to play that open, expansive rugby that we’d like.

“It’s more of a grind, and you’re going set-for-set with teams.

“But going forward, we’re looking to play more and more open rugby and hopefully as the weather improves so will we.”

French has arguably provided most of the excitement so far, scoring four tries in as many games ahead of Sunday’s trip to leaders Huddersfield.

“Bevan’s probably been the stand-out so far, with a full pre-season under his belt,” added Marshall.

“He’s looked so sharp, so fast, and he’s cutting defences apart so far.”
