Wigan Warriors 'buzzing' ahead of return

Adrian Lam says there is a “buzz in the air” at Wigan Warriors as they get set to relaunch their campaign.

They head to Leeds tomorrow to face Wakefield as part of a triple-header.

All matches are behind-closed-doors until at least next month but with them all televised – and little other sport on TV – Lam sees this as a great chance for Super League to win over new fans.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for our sport,” he said. “I’m pretty sure all rugby league fans will be excited and, as it grows, I’m sure the numbers will get bigger each week.

“We can’t wait to get going again.

“There’s no apprehension, the players are just excited - I can tell this week there was a buzz in the air all week at training.”

He believes players at both ends of the spectrum have benefitted from the five month lay-off.

“My thoughts have always been that the big difference between Super League and the NRL has been, there, the younger players coming through have an extra month or two to prepare their bodies in the off-season,” he said.

“Here it’s a short turnaround so for our young players, this has given them a great opportunity to get stronger.

“And then at the other end, Sean O’Loughlin looks like he’s back in his 20s – he was probably our best trainer last week.”
