Wigan Warriors' Joe Greenwood wants to extend loan spell with Leeds Rhinos

Joe Greenwood hopes to extend his time with Leeds after coronavirus - which he has been tested for - interrupted his loan spell.

The England forward joined the Rhinos at the end of February on a two-month agreement.

He wasn't selected for the first two matches and his hopes of squeezing into Richard Agar's side for a trip to Catalans were dashed when he experienced symptoms of Covid-19, forcing the game to be abandoned.

With the season suspended until at least April 3 - and many expecting that postponement to be extended - his loan spell could expire, on April 25, without him playing for Leeds.

He said: “I’m hopeful we can get something sorted out and I can extend a bit.

“I’m just keen for my chance to come soon, to be able to wear that shirt and run out at Headingley.

“But all the lads will be chomping at the bit, so we’re all just waiting for the all clear.

"I am trying to do a bit of training on my own where I can and just really getting back to reality as much as I can.”

Leeds revealed Greenwood was the player who showed symptoms of coronavirus ahead of Leeds' trip to Catalans.

The RFL has not ruled out sanctions against the Headingley outfit for postponing the match, which was due to be played behind closed doors.

“With everything that’s going on it was a bit scary at the time," said Greenwood.

“They said they were going to do some tests on me which they have done, but it came back all negative, it was just another virus, but I’ve shaken that off now and ready to go again.”
