Liam Farrell injury update as early Wigan Warriors team news shared ahead of Leigh Leopards trip
Matt Peet has provided the latest injury news from within the Wigan Warriors camp ahead of Friday’s trip to Leigh Leopards
Wigan Warriors captain Liam Farrell will spend around another month on the sidelines with his shoulder injury, head coach Matt Peet has confirmed.

The 36-year-old has not featured since Wigan’s win over Hull FC on June 27, having left that game early in the first half after injuring his shoulder.
Farrell’s recovery progress has been slower than first anticipated, with the Warriors skipper set to miss around another month of action.
“He is going to be out for an extended period,” said Peet.
“He had his check-up last Friday, and we haven’t got the improvements we needed in and around his shoulder, so (he will be) at least another four weeks, and then we’ll check in again then.”
The Warriors were boosted by the returns of four players in Friday’s 38-16 win over St Helens, as Liam Marshall and Bevan French started the game, with Sam Walters and Noah Hodkinson featuring from the bench.
Speaking in his weekly press conference ahead of Friday’s trip to Leigh, Peet said it would be a similar squad that makes the short journey across the borough this weekend.
When asked if everyone came through the Saints win healthy, Peet replied: “Yeah, they did, which is also a bonus at this time of year, so we’re the same again really.
“Those players, Sam, Marshy and Bev will be better for the run out, and obviously Noah has had another week’s training as well.”
Meanwhile, young winger Dayon Sambou returned from injury on Saturday to make his first appearance in over three months, scoring two tries to help the reserves claim a 28-26 victory over Hull FC to extend Wigan’s winning run to 14 matches in the Reserves League.
“Credit to Dayon for the way he’s worked back,” said Peet. “It was good for him to have that moment at the end of the reserves game.
“Our reserves have probably been on a similar journey to ourselves (in the first-team). They’ve been winning, but getting different kinds of wins, and that one at Hull away was exactly that, with what the travel brings, the challenges and it was on a 4G pitch. Hull started the game the better of the two, so it was good for our lads to overcome that and there were some good signs for them.”
Reflecting on Friday’s first-team win over Saints, Peet said he was pleased with his side’s victory overall, but insisted there are improvements to work on heading into Friday’s Battle of the Borough clash with Leigh.
“When I watched the game back, I was more pleased than I was watching it live,” Peet added.
“You can get caught up in certain periods, but on the whole, I thought we were good. Blocks of the game we could’ve managed better, but that’s credit to St Helens and the way they played and the energy they brought.
“I think there is a lot to build on, some obvious improvement areas, but on the whole, a performance we can be proud of. I said exactly the same to the team, a few clear areas of improvement, but on the whole, a job well done.”
