Wigan Warriors v Warrington Wolves: Matt Peet’s message ahead of Academy Grand Final
Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves go head-to-head in the Academy Grand Final on Sunday afternoon
Matt Peet believes Sunday’s Academy Grand Final between Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves will provide a glimpse of the first-team players of the future.

Wigan face neighbours Warrington in this year’s Academy Grand Final, with the 3pm kick-off taking place at the Brick Community Stadium on Sunday, September 6.
The Warriors finished top of the Academy League and remain unbeaten in 2026, earning home advantage for the showpiece.
They face the reigning champions Warrington, who went undefeated in 2025, with Wigan having already beaten the Wolves twice this season.
The Warriors recorded a 42-0 victory over Warrington at Robin Park Arena in July before following that up with a 30-20 win on home soil last month.
Peet, who served as Wigan’s head of youth prior to his appointment as first-team head coach, will be backing the academy on Sunday as they look to finish their season with silverware.
“Yeah, we’ll be down,” said Peet. “Matty Smith (Wigan’s academy head coach), his staff and Shane Eccles (head of youth) have done a great job, and I think once you get to this time of year for the academy lads, it’s just about letting them enjoy the occasion.
“Wigan v Warrington, so to both sets of players, they should be really proud and hopefully they will enjoy the occasion. We’ll be down there and I’d encourage people to get down there.
“There is no doubt there’ll be players in both teams who go on to play in the first-team over the next few years as we’ve seen a lot recently, so it should be a great event, and it would be great to get as many fans down as possible.”
Tickets for Sunday’s Academy Grand Final are priced at £5 for adults and £3 for juniors, with supporters able to purchase tickets from the Brick Community Stadium ticket office or online.
