But the Warriors coach says there is no need to rush to recruit another prop.

Burgess only played eight matches last season and though Ben Flower has joined Leigh, Brad Singleton arrived late-season.

Wigan also have Joe Bullock, Ollie Partington, Ethan Havard, Liam Byrne and Mitch Clark in their squad. Lam said: “I’m really happy with he squad and where we’re at, but we’ll keep an open mind.

“We’re always looking to improve and there may be an opportunity to strengthen the middle as we go on.

“We’ll have those conversations between the coaching staff and Kris Radlinski and Ian Lenagan, but we’re in a good place and we’re certainly not going to panic or rush into anything. With the timing of it all and the situation with Covid, it’s probably better to sit and wait.”

Lam was sad to see Burgess, 28, depart but feels it’s for the best.

The former Souths prop is unsure whether he will play again after hip surgery which would have ruled him out of this season.

“t’s a real shame because he’s a salt of the earth guy who has worked extremely hard, and everyone here is really supportive of him,” added Lam.
