Band will just Luv it at music festival

Four-piece Marcadia have secured a slot on the second stage at the We Luv Festival taking place at Aintree Racecourse on May 29.

The band, comprising guitarist and singer Jake Kelly, new six-stringer Tom Birchall, bassist Jordan Molyneux and vocalist and drummer Lewis Bolton, will perform at the Grand National venue alongside the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Ocean Colour Scene and UB40.

The event will be the first time the group, who draw influences from the likes of Stone Roses and Oasis, have been selected for a major outdoor festival and the musicians say they are thrilled at the prospect of performing at an event attended by up to 90,000 people.

Jordan said: “This is our first national level festival so we’re all pretty over the moon.

“Our singer Jake got us the gig through a friend of his.

“We didn’t know if we would be on the bill with it being a well-established festival, but when we saw it and our name was below the headliners we were stunned.

“We’re all just buzzing and can’t wait to do it.

“The biggest crowd we’ve performed for is probably about 250 people so to go from that to this is pretty overwhelming.”

Marcadia will perform on the Sunday at the two-day bash on a bill headlined by UB40 and Ocean Colour Scene, and it is the Birmingham stars Jordan says they are most looking forward to sharing a stage with.

He said: “Ocean Colour Scene are one of my favourite bands so to be on the same bill as them is amazing.

“There’s also John Power from Cast and we’re all looking forward to seeing UB40 too.

“Every gig has been a stepping stone for us and we’ve always had playing big festivals in mind. It’s what everybody in a band wants to do.”

Despite only forming around a year ago Marcadia have already made an impact on the Wigan scene with their indie rock ‘n’ roll sound, securing a prestigious support slot at The Old Courts opening for The Ordinary Boys.

With close to 100,000 people expected through the Aintree gates over two days We Luv Festival is one of the North West’s biggest music events, with the likes of Dizzee Rascal and Example headlining the first day before the second day is more devoted to indie and rock-influenced groups.
