Lottery Winners to play streaming gig for fans

The four-piece, from Leigh, had been looking forward to an unusual drive-in stadium gig at Bolton which would have involved up to 300 cars parking in designated boxes allowing fans to watch while also social distancing.

However, the entire series of outdoor concerts planned were scrapped over fears of local lockdowns.

The group says it hopes the streamed gig will also support the independent venue, with places hosting live music having a very tough financial time with concerts unable to take place.

A busy lockdown period for the Lottery Winners, including a recent spell in the studio in Wales working on their second album, means the group also has plenty of material to put in the setlist.

Frontman Thom Rylance said: “We did a performance at The Met for the anniversary of Ian Curtis and it’s a great theatre and space.

“We could have streamed this from anywhere but we decided to go for an independent venue because they are struggling and we wanted to help.

“It was really sad to lose the stadium gig, we were looking forward to it.

“We understand the reasons behind it.

“We need to make sure everybody’s safe and that happens when they stay on their couches at home.

“So rather than bringing them to us we’re coming to them.

“It will be the first time we’ve played our album together since we released it and it got into the charts and we’ve just recorded a new one we’re excited about.”

As well as their own songs the group have been working on a covers album called Sounds of Isolation.

The band is planning a number of singles releases from that project, including their versions of Jolene by Dolly Parton and Dreams by Fleetwood Mac.

Lottery Winners are playing a live streamed set from The Met in Bury on Friday July 31.
