An afternoon of celebrations is being held in Skelmersdale town centre from noon on Sunday, November 15.

Crowds are expected to flock to Southway to enjoy live entertainment from a range of artists and acts.

Street performers, charity stalls and fairground rides will also be on hand to sprinkle some Christmas magic for visitors of all ages to enjoy, while artisan market stalls can be browsed by shoppers hoping to find the perfect gifts for their loved ones.

The winner of West Lancashire Council’s 2026 Christmas card design competition will have the honour of switching on the lights at 5pm, officially declaring the start of the festive season.

They will be joined by the Mayor of West Lancashire Coun Janet Ingman.

A similar event will be held in Ormskirk town centre on Sunday, November 22.

Coun Neil Furey, chairman of the council’s communities and environment committee, said: “The Christmas lights switch-on events in Ormskirk and Skelmersdale are two of the highlights of the borough’s event calendar.

“We are delighted to bring a duo of spectacular festive showcases to everyone in West Lancashire.

“It is a time to come together and celebrate while also providing a vital boost to our local and independent businesses.”

It has been announced there will be no restrictions to parking at the Concourse Centre over the weekend of November 14 and 15.
