Haigh Hall's new thrill attraction

Families are invited to get involved in a day of fun at Haigh Woodland Park as part of National Play Day celebrations on Wednesday when Wigan Mayor Coun Ron Conway officially opens High Ropes: the park's latest attraction.

Last year’s play day was a huge success with over 5,000 people visiting the park and this year is expected to be even busier with a wide range of free activities, planned across the day, including sports and games, inflatables, storytelling and arts and crafts.

Young visitors can also enjoy the park’s adventure play area offering adventure climbing, swings, a tree house and an interactive play feature, but are also encouraged to bring bikes and scooters and make use of the extensive park trails.

Organised by Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles on behalf of Wigan Council the event is supported by the Friends of Haigh Country Park, Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

    Pete Burt, managing director of Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles, said: “National Play Day continues to be one of the most popular events we run at Haigh Woodland Park. With so many families visiting the park on a regular basis, it’s good to remember and celebrate how vital play is in children’s lives to ensure they stay happy, healthy and active.”

    Activities on site are aimed at youngsters aged between five and 13. Many activities are free, however there is a charge for high ropes and some activities provided by third party organisations.

    Visitors are asked to note that new parking charges now apply at Haigh Woodland Park.
