The TV celebrity will be bringing his Intimate Magic Tour to Hindley’s Rose Club with his wife and assistant Debbie McGee on May 21.

The pair have big links to the borough as his identically-named son runs the Paul Daniels Magic Party Shop in Wigan’s Mesnes Street and Paul Snr and Debbie are regular visitors to the borough.

Gaz Ronan, who organised the Rose Club line-up, said; “I am a big fan of magic and enjoyed watching Paul Daniels’s TV show in the 1980s. We don’t get much of it on TV - it would be good to bring it back.

“So it is great Paul Daniels has started touring again with this intimate tour. We are looking forward to it.

“We approached him through his son at the magic shop and he was delighted to come on board.

“He is a Karen Carpenter fan and when we mentioned that a tribute act to her would be his support act, he said he would love to join us.

“We are thrilled to have Paul Daniels on board. We are trying to establish the venue and this is such a great coup. We also have Heather Small performing in March, so we are definitely on the map.”

Daniels, whose interest in magic began when he was 11, got his first break in 1969 when he was offered a summer season at Newquay.

He made his television debut on the long-running talent show Opportunity Knocks in 1970, and came second. In 1978 ITV gave Daniels his own Sunday night show Paul Daniels’ Blackpool Bonanza and his first series for the BBC was For My Next Trick.

This led to Daniels presenting his own television series, The Paul Daniels Magic Show, on BBC1 from 1979 until 1994. He also started working with Debbie McGee in 1979, who became his wife.

The couple have also been on several reality TV shows, including The Farm, The X Factor: Battle of the Stars and Wife Swap series in early 2007 and All Star Mr and Mrs in 2012.

In 2010, Daniels participated in Strictly Come Dancing.

In 2013, the couple toured their First Farewell Tour and are embarking on The Intimate Magic Tour.
