Organised by Structures Group, the initiative brought together local residents, businesses and community organisations to tackle litter across Leigh town centre and surrounding areas. In just a few hours, volunteers collected over 400 bags of rubbish, delivering an immediate and visible improvement to the local environment.
Participants gathered at Structures Group’s headquarters on Chapel Street before being organised into teams and deployed across key areas of the town, equipped with high-visibility vests, gloves and litter-picking equipment.
Lloyd Jolley, Director of Structures Group said:
"We knew the weather might put people off, so seeing more than 80 volunteers turn up ready to help was genuinely brilliant. It really shows how much people care about Leigh and the pride people have in their community. Collecting over 400 bags of rubbish in just a couple of hours is an incredible achievement, and everyone involved should be really proud."
The event was supported by local businesses including Morrisons, Alex Grundy of G&Teatime, and Ann from The Replenishery Shop, who generously provided refreshments for volunteers throughout the day.
Following the clean-up, participants were invited to G&Teatime for a well-earned drink, kindly provided by Lloyd Jolley, Director at Structures Group. The informal gathering gave volunteers the opportunity to come together, warm up, and reflect on the day’s success.
Structures Group has extended its thanks to everyone who took part, highlighting the importance of community-led initiatives in driving positive change and encouraging others to take pride in their local area.
