Tony Porter Ponders: rare praise for Andy Burnham and £72m for Reform UK
This week Tony Porter ponders over international politics, Reform UK and Freeview TV.
Once again UK politics delivers but, as usual, not all in a good way.

First off though I want to congratulate Andy Burnham PM for his stance on the West Bank “invasion” by Jewish settlers, against international law.
I do not see this as antisemitism, more standing up for the people who are being attacked in their own home and on their own land by violent and racist thugs.
Andy is correct that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has illegally allowed and authorised new settlements on Palestinian land.
I said last week he needed to grow a pair and he has.
Let’s hope all these illegal bullies return to their country of origin, in this case Israel.
Now if only we had someone in charge in the UK that could do the same for British citizens, wouldn’t that be great?
Meanwhile World War Three almost began after a suspected targeted attack on a train on the Ukraine/Polish border.
Nothing new about Putin targeting civilian infrastructure, but it turns out that a certain Boris Johnson, our former bumbling PM, had been on a train at that platform not long before, prompting speculation that he was the target, along with other dignitaries.
Hopefully it was more of an unfortunate coincidence.
I sometimes think our mainstream media target Nigel Farage unfairly while GBNews blows smoke up his posterior.
But I have to say, again, he is not fit to run the country.
I think Reform UK have shot their bolt, got over-excited and now are about to implode.
Things have not been helped by two £36m donations from Christopher Harborne and Ben Delo, both crypto-billionaires.
Angela Rayner did the media rounds spouting that donations from non-UK residents, but citizens, would be capped at £100k.
I bet if these guys had given this money to Labour she would be saying something completely different.
But back to Reform, I cannot help but feel that, again, sleaze is getting in the way.
There is still an inquiry into the £5m “personal gift” to Nigel from Christopher Harborne. Yup him again.
Harborne saying that there is no hidden agenda on his part, Reform saying no peerages or favours will be given in return, but to me it just stinks.
It has been said by many in Reform they do not expect, nor want, Nigel to be leading them into the general election.
Meanwhile Ed Miliband is pushing for a Freeview TV cut-off date, meaning there will be no free TV unless you have the internet.
It’s to push for net zero apparently, but there are millions of homes with zero internet access.
Many of these are not just on a cost issue, though I’m guessing if someone is on benefits, they will get access to the web supplied for free, while those who work will have to pay.
No, many deliberately stay offline due to mental health reasons, anxiety mainly, but bullying, AI nonsense and many other reasons.
Those will be cut off from mainstream news, TV programmes and the like.
I fail to see how switching off Winter Hill transmitter for TV will save the planet, when folks will have to get a box and router, both of which use leccy, and put a strain on the internet network, therefore it needing more power.
