There are so many, it can sometimes be difficult to pick one.
If you’re like me and you spend half of your potential viewing time flicking through the different genres, watching the clock tick away, here are 10 top films (in my humble opinion) on the streaming platform that if you haven’t seen will kick off your year with a bang.
5. Dawn of the Dead (18)
In the wake of a plague America is overrun by millions of cannibalistic zombies in this 2004 classic. A small group of survivors finds refuge in a shopping mall but will they be safe for long? Starring Sarah Polley, Ving Rhames and Jake Webber this is the ultimate zombie movie - slick, funny and scary. Brilliant. Photo: Netflix
6. Annihilation (15)
When her husband vanishes during a secret government mission, biologist Lena Double (Natalie Portman) joins an expedition into a mysterious region 'The Shimmer' sealed off by the US Army. If you like weird films, this one's for you. And if you like scary creatures, you'll love the downright terrifying grizzly bear scene. A sci-fi cracker from 2018 and truly bizarre with a capital B, especially the ending. Photo: Netflix
7. Happy Gilmore (12)
A fizzled hockey player takes his slap shot and violent impulses to the golf course in an attempt to win enough prizemoney to save his grandma's house. Adam Sandler is at his hilarious best as Happy Gilmore in this 1996 cult comedy. With superb supporting performances from Carl Weathers, Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen and even the late, great Richard Kiel (Jaws from James Bond), Happy Gilmore will have you in stitches. Definitely a must watch for golfers! Photo: Netflix
8. Red Dragon (15)
Former FBI agent Will Graham (Edward Norton) confronts an old nemesis, Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), when he's tasked to hunt down a grisly serial killer known as the tooth fairy. Made in 2002, after The Silence of the Lambs but a prequel to that film, Red Dragon is a nerve-jangling classic and features a magnificently chilling performance from Ralph Fiennes as well as Norton and Hopkins in the lead roles.
