9. Gangs of New York (18)
In the crime-ridden slums of New York in the 1860s, vengeful orphan Amsterdam Vallon (Leonardo DiCaprio) joins the cutthroat gang of his father's killer, Bill the Butcher (Daniel Day-Lewis). With those two heavyweights going head-to-head plus a magnificent supporting cast and an incredible backdrop, what could go wrong? Well, nothing! This 2002 2hr 46mins cracker is laced with incredible dialogue, stunning fight sequences and brilliant performances. Photo: Netflix
10. Taxi Driver (18)
Martin Scorsese's classic thriller stars Robert De Niro as New York cab driver Travis Bickle, whose rage, paranoia and obsession simmer into violence. De Niro is outstanding as the unhinged "you talking to me" Bickle - truly a classic and now approaching 50 years old (1976). Photo: Netflix
