Coronation Street has been one of the nation’s best-loved television programmes since it started more than 50 years ago, making its stars familiar faces.

It has been announced that actor Ciaran Griffiths, who attended St Mary’s Catholic High School in Astley, is joining the cast as new character Damon, the troublemaker father of Jacob Hay.

He will join a long list of people from across the Wigan borough who have walked on the famous cobbles.
