The 24,449 sq ft shop at Marus Bridge retail park has undergone a major transformation - and shoppers were able to see it take place as the doors remained open throughout.
As B&M's first “store of the future” concept shop, it was selected as a testing ground for innovative layouts, new technology and customer-focused initiatives designed to help shape the future of the B&M shopping experience.
It offers customers a brighter, more spacious and contemporary shopping experience, alongside new features including a frozen food department, self-checkout tills, modern store fixtures and improved navigation.
To officially unveil the store, staff invited representatives from The Brick to take centre stage in recognition of the vital work they do to support people in Wigan facing poverty, homelessness and hardship. The charity received £500 worth of B&M vouchers to support its work.
Following the official ribbon-cutting, families enjoyed a fun-filled weekend of entertainment including a DJ, spin to win giveaways, face painting and goodie bags, while the first 40 customers received a B&M gift card.
Shoppers had the opportunity to meet Wigan Warriors first team players and the team's mascot Mighty Max, along with the chance to win a shirt signed by the team.
Throughout the weekend, appearances from the Haribo Bear and Cillit Bang's Barry Scott kept the excitement going.
A store manager from B&M said: "We were delighted to officially open our newly transformed Worthington Way store and celebrate the occasion with our customers and the wider Wigan community. The feedback throughout the opening weekend has been fantastic and we're incredibly proud of everything the team has achieved."
B&M CEO Tjeerd Jegen said: "We're incredibly excited to open our new Wigan store, the first to showcase our new ‘store of the future’ concept. We've listened to our customers and colleagues to create a shopping experience that is more inspiring, more intuitive and even easier to shop.
“From the excitement of our seasonal ranges and clearer navigation to the convenience of self-checkout, every change has been designed to make shopping at B&M even better while continuing to deliver the amazing value our customers expect."
