As if that wasn't enough, Scott Adams - who runs the sports nutrition manufacturing business Nutrisport - also donated the two pick-up trucks which he used to transport the supplies to the Ukrainian army.

The two vehicles, bought specifically for the trip, transported 600kg of medical aid and clothing to the western Ukrainian city of Lviv - a 1,300-mile journey that saw Scott and his fellow driver Dmytro travel through Belgium, Germany and Poland.

After four days on the road, they arrived at their destination and unloaded the supplies.

Knowing how badly the country’s army needs large four-wheel drive pick-up trucks for its front-line units, Scott handed over the Mitsubishi L200 and Ford Ranger Thunder that his Wigan-based business Nutrisport had bought specifically for the trip at a total cost of £14,300.

Scott said: “As much as Ukraine needs clothing and medicine, it also needs large, off-road vehicles to transport food, troops and equipment.

"One thing that I didn’t know – and discovered to my horror – is that they prefer right-hand drive vehicles as Russian sniper attacks are usually aimed at a driver sitting on the left-hand side.”

Scott has accommodated a Ukrainian family of six since they fled their bombed home in Kharkiv in April 2022.

He started his business Nutrisport - based in Great George Street, Wigan - 35 years ago. At that time he advised Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves and Oldham Athletic who all reached Wembley finals.

And it is not the first time Mr Adams has hit the headlines.

In 2012 was so disappointed with opportunities for bright youngsters in his former home of Wigan that he has set up his own educational charity for them.

The Nutrisport Trust was designed to provide grants for bright children from less privileged backgrounds to study science, engineering, maths or medical subjects in top universities.

A bio-chemist by trade, Scott comes from a background of coaching athletes and bodybuilders so it was a natural progression for him to dabble in potions that would legitimately give extra energy and power to sportsmen and women.
