The 13-year-old from Marsh Green, who was diagnosed with epilepsy two years ago, suffers seizures in his sleep which, his family say, are so severe that he could die.

As a result Cory, who attends St John Fisher High School in Beech Hill, lies awake at night and so his mum, Shelly, 32, is fund-raising for a special bed and wrist alarm, which costs around £2,000.

Shelly said: “Two years ago Cory was really ill and had a temperature.

“We took him to the doctor’s and he was diagnosed with epilepsy.

“He has seizures in his sleep which is very worrying.

“He has to have resuscitation medication because he can’t come out of it himself.

“He could die. It is very terrifying for the family and for him, so much so that he stays awake.

“I have to stay up night after night and I go to lots of hospital appointments with him.

“Between myself and his nan, Linda Long, we are shattered.

“It, of course, affects Cory’s school work and he has fallen behind in lessons.”

Shelly has organised a country and western night at St Thomas’s Social Club, in Marsh Green, on April 19, from 7pm.

Entry is £3 on the door for adults. Admission for children is free.

Shelly, who herself suffers from spina bifida, said: “I have found these last two years really tough and need help fund-raising.

“I have looked into getting support from charities, but it would take months to get the funding, so I decided to arrange my own fund-raising.

“The country and western night will provide lots of fun for the family and I hope people can attend to help Cory.

“Cory needs medical equipment to keep him safe and to let somebody know when he as a seizure when he’s asleep.

“I want to make my son safe and happy again and not worry about going to sleep.”
