More than 400 bikers gathered at the Three Sisters Race Circuit this week to take part in a fundraising ride out.

The event, organised by Coun Bob Brierley, who has run similar meets for years, was in aid of North West Air Ambulance.

Just last week the company behind the track days and karting school announced its shock closure after falling into £2m of debt, which threw the future of a number of charity race days into complete uncertainty.

But despite this, Mr Brierley managed to secure public liability and insurance in time for the event to go ahead.

Following the event he said: “Myself and Aidy run the charity ride out. We offer 10 full laps with a donation of £10 which is all given to good causes. With the support of Sue, our photographer, who asked could we donate funds to the air ambulance. We had four track marshalls, and a paramedic and five volunteers and raised over £1,400.

"We thank all the riders and staff for running a great event. This is my passion, to help as many people who need it as I can.”

It is anticipated that another event will be held in the second week of June.
