CCTV released after suitcase theft

Police have released CCTV of a man they want to speak to after a suitcase was taken from a train at Wigan North Western Station

The incident happened on December 22 and British Transport Police have now released an image as they step up their investigation.

It took place between 4.30pm and 5.45pm on a Birmingham to Glasgow train.

Investigating officer PC Lee Owen said: “The victim placed his suitcase in the vestibule area of coach H on the 3.15pm Virgin Trains service from Birmingham New Street to Glasgow.

“Shortly before the train arrived at Wigan North Western station, a man, who boarded the train at Warrington Bank Quay, inspects the case and removes a book. He left the train at Wigan before re boarding to take the bag.

“The case contained prescribed medicine books, magazines and other personal items to a value of £250.”

Officers have managed to isolate a CCTV image of a man they believe will have information about the incident.
