Suspended prison sentence and road ban given to a Wigan motorist caught four times over the drink-drive limit

A Wigan borough motorist was four times over the drink-drive limit when police stopped him.

Zakir Choudhury, 52, of Manchester Road, Tyldesley, stood before Manchester justices to plead guilty to driving a Nissan Note heavily under the influence of liquor along Elliot Street in Tyldesley on November 14.

The bench was told that he gave a read of 135 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath when the legal limit is 35 micrograms.

Because of the seriousness of the offence, the magistrates imposed a 12-week custodial sentence but suspended it for a year.

Choudhury was also banned from driving for 36 months, although this can be reduced to 36 weeks if he completes a state-sanctioned course for drink-drivers.

There is also £239 to pay to the court and victim services.
