A pair of Wigan borough thugs are electronically tagged and ordered to pay compensation to their victim after they inflicted grievous bodily harm

Two Wigan borough men who admitted to a savage attack have been spared immediate jail spells.

Malcolm Platt, 53, and Martin Hughes, 34, both in Tyldesley, had initially been charged with intending to cause Adrian Naylor grievous bodily harm during an attack on July 6 last year.

But at a pre-trial preparation hearing at Bolton Crown Court, the pair entered guilty pleas to a lesser charge of GBH without intent and this was accepted by the prosecution.

They were therefore found not guilty of the even more serious offences.

Returning to court for sentencing, they were both given 12-month custodial terms suspended for two years.

They must pay their victim £500 each in compensation and have to observe three-month electronically-tagged curfews which mean they have to stay at home between the hours of 8pm and 5am.
