They stopped the car on Westleigh Lane, in Westleigh, on Wednesday and, following a number of checks, discovered it was uninsured.

It was seized under section 165 of the Road Traffic Act.

A short time later, the same officers saw two youths riding off-road motorbikes on Westleigh Lane, near Hindley Green.

After seeing the officers, the riders tried to hide, before abandoning the bikes and leaving on foot.

These vehicles were also seized.

A police spokesman said: “While the owner of the uninsured vehicle may be able to recover it at significant cost, the seized off-road bikes are likely destined for destruction and recycling.
