Wigan man who sexually assaulted a girl and possessed indecent images given suspended prison sentence

A Wigan man will be subject to the sex offender register and a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.

A suspended prison sentence was given to a Wigan man who sexually assaulted a girl twice and had indecent images.

David Smalley, 48, of Walthew Lane, Platt Bridge, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to two counts of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl between February 1 and 28, 2025, possessing category A, B and C indecent images of children on January 1 this year and two counts of taking pictures under clothing between April 4 and May 11, 2025.

A judge at Bolton Crown Court has now imposed a 22-month prison sentence, suspended for three years.

Smalley was ordered to do 250 hours of unpaid work, have an electronically monitored curfew for four months, and will be subject to the sex offender register and a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.
