Four arrested after reports of trespassing at Wigan prison

Four arrests have been made after a group of men were said to have attempted to trespass the grounds of a Wigan prison.

Officers were called at around 9.50pm on Tuesday (November 17) to a report of men attempting to get into the grounds of HMP Hindley and acting suspisciously.

Patrols supported by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) were able to pursue on foot four men who had made off.

Four men were arrested – aged 49, 45, 32 and 26 – on suspicion of criminal damage and conspiracy to supply controlled drugs. They remain in custody for questioning.

Officers recovered a discarded bag with which are believed to contain contraband – namely drugs and mobile phones – and they have been taken for forensic examination.

An investigation has been launched and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 5860 quoting incident number 2910 of 17/11/2020.
