Investigation launched after Wigan man seriously hurt in attack

A man from Wigan has been seriously injured after he was assaulted in the early hours.

A group of friends standing outside McDonald's, on Folly Lane in Warrington, were approached by a man at around 3.20am on Saturday.

He produced a large knife and assaulted the 21-year-old man from Wigan, causing serious injuries.

The victim was taken to Whiston Hospital and his condition is described as stable.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack and he is assisting officers with their inquiries.

Det Insp Nick Henderson, from Cheshire Constabulary, said: “While we have arrested a suspect in connection with this incident, we are continuing to appeal for information from the public.

“As part of our enquiries we’re keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack, or anyone with any information which may assist with our investigation.

“The same goes for anyone who was driving in the area at the time of the incident and thinks they may have dashcam footage which may be relevant to the investigation.”
