Man admits his part in machete raid terror

A young borough man has joined a 17-year-old boy in admitting they were the two masked figures who threatened a terrified woman with machetes during a house raid and assaulted her.

The youngster, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had already appeared before a Bolton Crown Court judge to plead guilty to aggravated burglary and possession of a bladed weapon.

Now 25-year-old Dale Bailey, of Balmoral Drive, Leigh, has also admitted to aggravated burglary.

The raid happened in the early hours of October 19 last year in Warwick Street, Leigh, during which a number of items including a mobile phone were taken. The victim - in her 40s - needed hospital treatment for serious cuts to her hands.

The pair are now next due to appear at the court together on January 25 for discussions as to whether a trial of issue will be held or not. After that a sentencing date will be set.

Shortly after the raid Det Sgt Jim Harris of Wigan CID said: “This was a vicious and traumatising attack in the early hours of this morning that caused an awful amount of distress for the victim who suffered serious cuts during the ordeal.”
