Man jailed for second knife offence

A man accused of being armed with a deadly blade in public for the second time has been jailed for six months.

Christopher Holden, 32, of Siddow Common, Leigh, admitted to Wigan and Leigh magistrates that he had a large kitchen knife in Bradshawgate on November 3.

He also pleaded guilty to threatening Heather Cartwright in Tyldesley on October 24.

Justices gave him a total of 26 weeks behind bars for the crimes, saying that the offences have been aggravated by his having a previous knife possession conviction.

Holden was ordered to pay £100 in compensation to his assault victim and is the subject of a restraining order which prevents him from having any contact with her for a year including entering her street.
