Penalties for mums of borough truants

Amanda Mayson, 45, of Crompton Street, Wigan, and 31-year-old Danielle Cable, of Rossall Crescent, Leigh, appeared before Wigan magistrates to admit to charge of not ensuring their daughter and son attended Orrell St Peter’s High and Astley St Mary’s High Schools respectively.

They were both given six-month conditional discharges and ordered to pay £61 in costs and a victim surcharge.

A different Amanda Mason faces a much bigger bill after she herself failed to turn up at the hearing concerning her child’s repeated absence from Ashton St Wilfrid’s RC Primary. The mum, from Bolton Road, Ashton, was proved guilty in her absence and ordered to pay a £220 fine plus costs of £150 and a £32 surcharge.
