Police report 16 drivers for speeding in Wigan

Police reported 16 drivers for speeding during enforcement checks.

Officers were positioned in Standish and Aspull on Sunday (February 14) after residents raised concerns about speeding.

GMP Wigan West said 18 traffic offence reports (TOR) were issued with 16 being for driving at an excess speed.

The highest speeds they recorded on the roads during this time were 45 and 49mph in a 30mph limit, according to police.

A driver was also arrested after his cloned vehicle was found to be stolen from Merseyside.

A post on their Facebook page said: "One of our #TransportUnit patrols conducted speed enforcement in Standish and Aspull yesterday after the local community reported concerns about the issue.

"18 Traffic Offence Reports issued with 16 being for excess speed. The highest speeds recorded (with 30 being the limit) were 45 and 49mph.

"Also as a bonus the patrol stopped a cloned vehicle found to be an outstanding stolen from Merseyside.

"The driver was arrested and tried to give false details - turns out he was a disqualified driver (five previous disqualifications)."
