Second man arrested in murder investigation

Detectives investigating the death of a man in Skelmersdale have made a second arrest.

The 30-year-old man, also from the town, has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Kristaps Muzikants who died on Saturday morning (March 28).

Police were contacted by the Ambulance Service shortly after 4:40am to the report Mr Muzikants, 30, was unconscious after being found with a stab wound at an address on Acregate.

He was taken to Aintree Hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

A subsequent post mortem examination has revealed the cause of his death to be a single stab wound to his chest.

Detectives are trying to piece together Mr Muzikants’ final movements and are asking anyone who knows anything about the incident to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Willis, from Lancashire’s Force Major Investigation Team (FMIT) said: “Firstly, my thoughts are very much with Kristaps’ family, who are being supported by specially trained officers.

“We are looking at the circumstances leading up to his death and key to that is what happened inside the address on Acregate.

“I am asking anyone who lives or was in the area to cast their minds back to between 12am and 4:30am on Friday night into Saturday morning. Did you see or hear anything? Do you know who was out and about around that street at those times? If so, we really need to speak to you as you could have vital information that could assist our investigation.

“Lastly, if you know anything about this incident, please come forward.”

A 36-year-old man from Skelmersdale also arrested yesterday on Saturday of murder remains in police custody. Officers have been granted extra time to question him.
