Teenager admits to being masked machete raider

A 17-year-old boy has admitted being one of two masked figures who threatened a woman with machetes during a house raid and assaulted her.

The youngster, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before a Bolton Crown Court judge to plead guilty to aggravated burglary and possession of a bladed weapon.

The raid happened in the early hours of October 19 in Warwick Street, Leigh, and a number of items including a mobile phone were taken.

The victim - who is aged in her 40s - suffered serious cuts to her hands and went to hospital for treatment. She was later discharged.

Dale Bailey, 25, of Balmoral Drive, Leigh, is also charged with aggravated burglary in connection with the incident but has yet to plead. The case was adjourned until January 8 and a provisional trial date for Bailey was set for April 19.
