Thai boxer from Wigan jailed for attacks on former partner

Paul Sudworth, 30, has starred on fight bills across the borough, from Robin Park Arena to the Britannia Hotel, and beyond.

And back in 2013 he was competing for the World Ring Sports Association’s British pro-am title at the arena.

But Sudworth, of Bradley Lane, Standish, is now behind bars after showing repeated violence to an ex-girlfriend.

Several people have contacted the Wigan Post after he was dealt with at Manchester Crown Court, to describe him as a “danger to women”.

Sudworth pleaded guilty to offences of assaulting occasioning actual bodily harm and three charges of common assault, all involving the same woman, who the Post has chosen not to name.

Further charges of making threats to kill and causing criminal damage, during two separate incidents, were allowed to lie on the file after the background to the offences was incorporated into the assault offences.

He also admitted to driving while unfit through drink or drugs and was disqualified from driving for 15 months.

Nine other offences were ordered to lie on the file by a judge in total.

Sudworth was said to have carried out one attack after a barbecue in June, where he attempted to strangle her.

Another incident, in September, following a family wedding, saw another violent outburst, where he is also alleged to have tried to throttle her, after clambering on top of her. He also threatened to kill her on this occasion.

A third attack, again after they had been out drinking, saw him slap her across the face and, when she fell to the floor, tip water over her.

The couple are understood to have been in a relationship between February and November of last year.
