Weapons man is spared prison

A man who armed himself with a hunting knife, imitation firearm and banned friction lock baton has avoided an immediate jail sentence.

Terence Steward, 49, of Etherstone Street, Leigh, admitted to possessing the weapons and driving while uninsured when he appeared before Wigan justices. Now a Bolton Crown Court judge has sentenced him to four months in prison but suspended the term for two years.
