Wigan drug driver banned from road for three years

Oakes, of Lord Street, appeared before borough justices to plead guilty to having taken ketamine before getting behind the wheel of a Volvo S40 which was stopped by police in Pottery Road, Wigan, on August 14 last year.

The officers had become suspicious of the 25-year-old's driving abilities, Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court was told.

Tests subsequently showed that he had levels of the banned drug above legal limits in his system.

As well as the disqualification, Oakes also has £239 to pay in the form of a fine, victim services surcharge and court costs.
