Wigan man charged with making 50 nuisance 999 calls

A Wigan man has been charged after making 50 unnecessary calls to 999.

The 53 year old Scholes man of Douglas House, Scholes, has been charged with an offence under Section 127 of the Communications Act 2003.

It is alleged that between the 24th December 2020 and 16th February 2021, he persistently used a public communications network to cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety.

Up until the 14th January 2021 the man had made 50 calls to the 999 service. 11 of the calls came on Boxing Day alone, none of which were a genuine emergency.
