Wigan man denies stealing Poppy Appeal box

A man has denied stealing a Royal British Legion collection box.

The Poppy Appeal container is one of several items of which Christopher Hughes is accused of snatching from Wigan’s Asda hypermarket on November 13.

It is also alleged that the 36-year-old of Hampden Place, Marsh Green, took groceries and alcohol which, along with the charity box, was estimated to be worth £170.

Hughes was released on bail by Wigan justices provided he does not enter the Asda store in question. His trial date is February 2.
