A man who drunkenly attacked two police officers has been given a community punishment.

Darren Evans, 32, of Duke Street, Ashton-in-Makerfield, appeared in the dock at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court to plead guilty to assaulting PCs Heppenstall and Evans during an incident in Ashton on December 13 last year.

Because the incident had taken place while Evans was under the influence of alcohol, the defendant was put on an alcohol dependency programme, ordered to complete 20 days of rehabilitation activities and 140 hours of unpaid work.

A victim services surcharge and court costs mean that he also has £180 to pay.
