Wigan sex offender jailed for double breach

A convicted sex offender has been jailed for 10 months for a double breach of the criminal register on which he is meant to sign.

Jamie Smart, 30, of Victoria Road, Platt Bridge, had already appeared before Wigan magistrates to admit two contraventions of the Sex Offenders’ register.

They are that he failed to notify the authorities of a change of address and to complete his periodic notifications which the police require to know of his whereabouts.

Smart had also pleaded guilty to a breach of a conditional discharge that had been issued by Warwickshire magistrates for which not further action will be taken.

But for the breaches he was given two 10-month prison terms which will be served concurrently.
