Wigan teen's car pursuit ended in a play area

The borough’s youth court heard the Ince 16-year-old was involved in a prolonged police chase which involved him careering down Brookhouse Street, hitting and damaging several other vehicles in the process, and ended in a children’s play area.

The hearing was told that the boy, who cannot be named, had taken the Vauxhall Vivaro from the owner’s home after a burglary of a house with accomplices on February 22 and a pursuit involving police ensued.

The bench gave him a 12-month detention and training order saying the offences warranted such a penalty because he had put lives at risk and damaged property.
