Firefighters spend three hours tackling fire at industrial site

An early morning blaze at an industrial site saw fire crews from several stations called into action.

Crews from Atherton, Hindley and Leigh were called to Coal Pit Lane in Atherton this morning, October 23, to reports of a blaze. On arrival they discovered that a quantity of rubbish had ignited, causing plumes of black smoke in the area.

The fire crews spent more than three hours extinguishing the flames.

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “At 7.22am on Friday, 23 October, firefighters were called to a fire involving a quantity of rubbish on Coal Pit Lane, in Atherton.

“Fire crews from Atherton, Hindley and Leigh quickly attended the scene. Firefighters used three hose reels and four breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

“Fire crews were in attendance for around three hours and 30 minutes.”
