Get on your bike for charity

Teams are being encouraged to pedal for 12 hours as part of a fund-raiser for a brain tumour charity.

Xercise4Less is hosting 12-hour spinathons called On Yer Bike at gyms across the country, including Wigan, in aid of Brain Tumour Research.

Local man James Hinnigan, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour last September, is heading up a team at the base in Chapel Street, on Saturday February 27, from 8am until 8pm.

He will be joined by staff at the gym, as well as women from the committee, players and coaches’ wives and some of the ladies’ team members of Ashton Bears.

The Ashton 36-year-old said: “I have got together a team of about 10 to 15 people. Some will do the full 12 hours, while others will drop in and out.

“It is great that Xercise4Less is running this fund-raiser. Each gym’s target is £2,740, which is a day’s research and I hope Wigan can smash that.

“I hope to get Wigan and Makerfield’s MPS Lisa Nandy and Yvonne Fovargue involved, as well as some rugby players.

“There are 40 bikes available so we need to get them filled. There will also be a bucket for donations, which will go towards Brain Tumour Research.”

Alan Turner, manager of Xercise4Less in Wigan, said: “The team and I are delighted to be part of such an amazing charity, it brings us great pleasure to know that we as ‘The People’s Gym,’ continue to change lives in every way possible.

“We can’t wait for the spinathon and hope that our valued members will help us raise as much money as possible.”
