Police Constable Kevin James from GMP’s Wigan division said: “This was a terrifying attack on a father and his child on the driveway of their family home and at this stage we believe it was an unprovoked and isolated incident.

“I would like to reassure the public that we are doing everything we can to identify those responsible for committing this violent crime and bring them to justice.

“I would like to appeal for any witnesses to come forward who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed the two men or the silver Honda Civic.
