She hit the headlines when she was just five years old after contracting hepatitis A during an outbreak at St William’s RC Primary School in Ince and underwent a liver transplant.

She recovered well, but had suffered other health problems in the past 18 months and she died on Monday, January 23.

The fund-raiser was held to support the children’s ward at St James’ Hospital in Leeds, where she was treated as a youngster. There was a cake stall, tombola, raffles, auction, bucking bronco, bouncy castle and host of other attractions.

The money raised for the hospital is being counted and donations can still be made at www.gofundme.com/aay87-in-memory-of-leah-cunliffe
