M6 traffic stopped after crash near Wigan

The M6 near Wigan was stopped following a crash.

Highways England said the collision, which happened around 2.15pm today, brought traffic to a halt on the northbound carriageway between junction 27 (Standish) and junction 28 (Leyland).

They tweeted: "The M6 northbound J27 (Standish Parbold A5209) to J28 (Leyland B5256) traffic has been temporarily stopped due to a police incident.

"Traffic Officers and @LancsRoadPolice are currently at scene, Recovery are on their way to the area to assist.

Later they tweeted that traffic had been released in lanes two and three with lane one still closed.

Then at around 3.15pm they said the vehicles involved had been recovered and the lane was re-opened.

Traffic has since returned to normal on the section of the motorway.
