Man arrested after knife siege

Police were called to St James’s Road, Orrell, at around 5.20pm on Tuesday, after a man reported being threatened by people outside his home.

The 26-year-old man then barricaded himself inside when police arrived and armed himself with a knife.

A police spokesman said: “It became apparent that the man was suffering from mental health issues.

“He had barricaded himself inside and was making threats to officers and passers-by.

“We sent a tactical aid unit as a precaution.

“After some negotiation we entered the property and arrested the man on suspicion of affray.”
