Motorway delays after lorry hit bridge

Drivers currently face long delays on the M6 motorway after a lorry hit a bridge.

The vehicle crashed into the bridge on the southbound carriageway at junction 27 at Standish at 4pm.

It was carrying heavy-duty construction equipment at the time.

The bridge has been damaged by the collision and an inspection will be carried out.

A Highways England spokesman said the location of the bridge meant traffic could be diverted off the M6 along the exit slip road and back on using the entry slip road.

However, there are still delays of around one-and-a-half hours.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision and no-one was injured.
