So the 6pm slot is reserved for the BBC2 quiz: either Eggheads or Richard Osman’s House of Games.

The latter is great fun, especially if you have a good quartet of guests competing five nights running; although the older-bloke-sitting-in-the-fourth-chair very often wins. It was Wigan’s own radio guru and author Stuart Maconie (I know, he’s not that old!) claiming last week’s trophy and well played to him.

I fancy I would do OK in the various games Richard hosts but for the fact that a disproportionate number of questions have a pop music element to them. Right up Stuart’s street but a real blind spot for yours truly (not that I’m ever going to be invited of course).
